The Campus has been selected as a finalist in the Ipswich Educational Facility of the Year Category, the winners of which will be announced at the City of Ipswich Business Awards on Saturday, 29 July.

CEREMONY MARKS NEW TRADITION FOR NURSING AT UQ
The first graduates from the Bachelor of Nursing at the Ipswich Campus were announced last night at the Campus' annual mid-year graduation ceremony. Forty-six students from the Bachelor of Nursing graduated at the ceremony, held at the Ipswich Civic Hall on Monday, 17 July. The students are the first cohort to graduate from the Nursing program, launched at the Ipswich Campus in 2004, and are graduating mid-year due to their choice to accelerate their degree and complete Nursing in two-and-a-half years instead of the traditional three. CONTRIBUTION TO STUDENT LEARNING AWARDED
Dr Marie Kavanagh from the UQ Business School Ipswich has won a Carrick Institute Award for Outstanding Contribution to Student Learning. Marie received $10,000 for leadership of a mentoring program that supports transition and collaborative learning for first year students at the Ipswich Campus, and engages students in the community. CAMPUS ENGAGES WITH SENIOR SCHOOL STUDENTS
Over 350 senior school students from South East Queensland will visit the Ipswich Campus this week to engage in business. Hosted by the UQ Business School, the annual Engaging Business conference brings together teachers and year 11 and 12 students to learn about contemporary business issues. Now in its fourth year, Engaging Business will welcome 364 students from 31 schools to the UQ Ipswich Campus, 11 Salisbury Road, on Thursday, July 20 and Friday, July 21. STREAMING OFF-AIR RECORDINGS
Would you like your students to be able to click on a link from the Library Catalogue to an off-air recording that they can access from a computer anywhere? On this Friday, 21 July, staff from the Library Multimedia Service will provide an overview and demonstration of the Library’s streaming off-air recordings service. The session will be held from 10-10:30am in eZone 3 and a repeat from 2:00-2:30 pm in eZone 1 (Building 8). All welcome.
NATIONAL SEMINARS ON ASSESSMENT IN BIOLOGICAL SCIENCE
Two one-day seminars, Enhancing Assessment in Biological Science, will be held at the University of Melbourne (7 December) and The University of Western Australia (12 December). No registration fee applies as both seminars are fully sponsored by The Carrick Institute for Learning and Teaching in Higher Education. IPSWICH SIFE STUDENTS FINALISTS IN NATIONAL COMPETITION
A team of students from the Ipswich Campus took to the national stage earlier this month as finalists in the Students in Free Enterprise 2006 Australian competition. The Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) competition brings together university students from around Australia to battle for the national title in a competition that is played on an international scale. The SIFE team from the Ipswich Campus were so successful at the event that they beat six other university teams to win the preliminary league, entering the national competition as finalists. UQ BOILERHOUSE CONFERENCE LETS OFF STEAM
The second in the UQ Boilerhouse ‘Letting off Steam’ conference series will be held on Monday, 11 September at the Ipswich campus. Entitled ‘What is democracy: where are the people’, the conference will facilitate debate around the current state of democracy in Australia. Participants will have the opportunity to engage with prominent speakers, participate in facilitated discussions, share information and build collaborative networks.
Guest speakers at the conference will include Dr Steve Johnson who is an adjunct academic at Portland State University, Oregon where he lectures on civic engagement. Steve is working with the UQ Boilerhouse to develop a joint social sustainability project translating and comparing the Portland experience and learnings with the current SEQ situation.

POLYSTYRENE RECYCLINGPolystyrene, eg; used mainly in packing for computers, printers etc. can now be recycled. P&F Cleaning services has a contractor that collects the polystyrene and it eventually ends up as photo frames and products used in the building industry. Please contact Val Evans from P&F Ipswich on ext 11432 if you have any items to be collected.
TRISAFE AUDIT
Later this year the Ipswich Campus will be audited as part of a comprehensive safety audit of the University carried out by Trisafe. Further advice will follow.
