IPSWICH SIFE STUDENTS FINALISTS IN NATIONAL COMPETITION
A team of students from the Ipswich Campus took to the national stage on the weekend as finalists in the Students in Free Enterprise 2006 Australian competition. The Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) competition brings together university students from around Australia to battle for the national title in a competition that is played on an international scale. The SIFE team from the Ipswich Campus were so successful at the event that they beat six other university teams to win the preliminary league, entering the national competition as finalists. The Campus has been selected as a finalist in the Ipswich Educational Facility of the Year Category, the winners of which will be announced at the City of Ipswich Business Awards on Saturday, 29 July.

UQ BOILERHOUSE CONFERENCE LETS OFF STEAM
The second in the UQ Boilerhouse ‘Letting off Steam’ conference series will be held on Monday, 11 September at the Ipswich campus. Entitled ‘What is democracy: where are the people’, the conference will facilitate debate around the current state of democracy in Australia. Participants will have the opportunity to engage with prominent speakers, participate in facilitated discussions, share information and build collaborative networks.
Guest speakers at the conference will include Dr Steve Johnson who is an adjunct academic at Portland State University, Oregon where he lectures on civic engagement. Steve is working with the UQ Boilerhouse to develop a joint social sustainability project translating and comparing the Portland experience and learnings with the current SEQ situation.

POSTGRADUATE NETWORK MEETING
The UQ Ipswich Postgraduate Networkis holding a lunch meeting this Friday, 14 July in the Staff & Graduate Lounge, Building 8 at 12pm. This is the "No Pressure - Share your Work" presentation. Those who are currently working on a paper for presentation or developing ideas for a paper and would like to share these for a short time are encouraged to come along to the meeting and share their ideas. POLYSTYRENE RECYCLING
Polystyrene, eg; used mainly in packing for computers, printers etc. can now be recycled. P&F Cleaning services has a contractor that collects the polystyrene and it eventually ends up as photo frames and products used in the building industry. Please contact Val Evans from P&F Ipswich on ext 11432 if you have any items to be collected.
UPDATE FROM STUDENT SUPPORT SERVICES IPSWICH
Some of the Student Support Services staff will be on leave or working at the St Lucia campus over the mid-year break for the following dates:
Disability Adviser, Rhonda Watson is on leave for Wednesday 28 June; Wednesday 5 July & will return on Wednesday 12 July.
Learning Adviser, David Rowland will be fulfilling teaching commitments on the St Lucia campus and will be back on the Ipswich campus during O'Week.
The Careers and Personal Counsellor, Diana Cogill and International Student Adviser, Julie O'Donohoe are available to see students over the mid-year break.

TRISAFE AUDIT
Later this year the Ipswich Campus will be audited as part of a comprehensive safety audit of the University carried out by Trisafe. Further advice will follow.
