AWARDS FOR EXCELLENCE IN TEACHING
Academic staff with teaching or teaching/research appointments who have a minimum of two years academic teaching-related employment within the University are eligible for nomination for Awards for Excellence in Teaching.  Both individual and team nominations are encouraged.  Nominations must be made by at least five people who are members of the academic staff of the University or who are current or former students.  Of the five people who nominate, at least one must be an academic staff member and one a current or former student.  Self-nominations for the AET are not permitted.  The Director of Studies of the nominee’s faculty is required to certify the eligibility of the nominee and the validity of the nomination form. Completed nomination forms for AET are to be lodged with the nominee’s faculty by 4 May.

Information concerning eligibility, selection criteria and application details for the awards can be found in their respective guidelines which changed significantly last year to align with the Carrick Awards for Australian University Teaching.  Award guidelines together with publicity posters and nomination forms, were circulated widely throughout the University in late January. Additional copies of the nomination form for the AET and application form for the AESL together with their guidelines are available on the Teaching and Learning website: http://www.uq.edu.au/teaching-learning/ (Select Teaching Excellence) or by contacting Jenny Bjarnesen on x53206 or email j.bjarnesen@admin.uq.edu.au.

Awards for the Enhancement of Student Learning (AESL)
Awards for the Enhancement of Student Learning are open to teaching and learning-related projects or services that have been initiated by curriculum teams, groups or organisational units within support services, administrative units, centres, schools or programs of study; or they may be University-wide initiatives.

In the first instance applicants are required to submit an application form with appropriate endorsement and a two-page synopsis of the nominated project. These should be forwarded to Jenny Bjarnesen, Room 629, Level 6, JD Story Building, St Lucia (j.bjarnesen@admin.uq.edu.au) by 4 May.
