THE WALTER & ELIZA HALL TRUST OPPORTUNITY SCHOLARSHIP IN NURSING
(Established in 2007 and maintained by an annual gift from The Walter & Eliza Hall Trust.)
1. The purpose of the scholarship is to provide assistance to a meritorious student studying the Bachelor of Nursing whose financial circumstances might otherwise prevent them from achieving their maximum potential during their university study. The funds are intended to assist with the cost of equipment, materials and such other study-related items as may be required by the recipient.
2. The scholarship is awarded annually by Senate on the recommendation of the Head, School of Nursing and Midwifery.
3. To assist in the selection process, the Head, School of Nursing and Midwifery must establish a selection committee comprising the Head (who shall chair the committee) or nominee, a representative of The Walter & Eliza Hall Trust and academic staff teaching in the field of nursing, with academic staff forming the majority.
4. The scholarship is open to students who -
(a) are –
(i) Australian citizens; or
(ii) permanent residents of Australia; and
(b) are enrolled full-time in a Commonwealth-supported place in the Bachelor of Nursing
program; and
(c) have completed at least #16 towards the program.
5. The scholarship is awarded, at the discretion of the selection committee, to the applicant showing the greatest merit as demonstrated by -
(a) academic achievement in their program to date; and
(b) financial need.
6. The scholarship is payable in half-yearly instalments and is subject to satisfactory academic progress and continued full-time enrolment in the program.
7. Recipients may apply in subsequent years if they continue to meet the eligibility requirements.
8. The value of the scholarship is $6,000 for one year.
