 Ipswich graduate launches second book

Ipswich resident and PhD student Toni Risson will launch her second book at The University of Queensland's Ipswich Campus next week.

Toni Risson draws inspiration for her kids’ own adventures from her property
adjoining the Bremer River, near Brisbane, and the escapades of her children and their friends. Boys will delight in her second book, Batty Business, a rollicking tale which involves Luke, Alex and their classmate Kevin as they try to solve the mystery of a rare giant bat terrorising their neighbourhood.

And if that’s not enough, they are forced to find themselves a new secret hideout. With Jason and his gang hot on their trail, the boys head to a disused mineshaft, only to discover it’s already inhabited by the mysterious, smelly bat.

After listening to tales from Kevin’s mother and grandmother, they soon become convinced that this enormous foul-smelling animal is actually a mythical creature, sent from Ancient Greece to protect the elixir of life.

The boys are faced with both environmental and moral dilemmas as they decide whether to reveal the bats precious identity or save it from local authorities and the destructive Jason who’s determined to discover the bat’s hiding place..

Like Toni’s first book Licking Lizards, 9+ readers will hang on to every word, enjoying the twists and turns of this fun-filled adventure.

Batty Business

will be launched at UQ Ipswich Library on 15 May 2008 from 6pm by Hugh Lunn author of Over the Top with Jim.
