Heather Bonner Memorial Scholarship
Established in 2005 in memory of Heather Bonner who brought indigenous and non-indigenous Australians together through her work with the One People of Australia League (OPAL). The Scholarship is maintained by an annual gift from the Ipswich Women’s Development Fund, a co-operative body established by women’s organisations in Ipswich to promote the achievements of women in the Ipswich community.
1. The Scholarship is awarded annually by Senate on the recommendation of a selection committee
consisting of
(a) the Pro-Vice-Chancellor (as chair of the committee); and
(b) at least one representative from the Ipswich Campus as nominated by the
Pro-Vice-Chancellor; and
(c) at least one representative from the Ipswich Women’s Development Fund.

(b) at least one representative from the Ipswich Campus as nominated by the
Pro-Vice-Chancellor; and
(c) at least one representative from the Ipswich Women’s Development Fund.
2. The Scholarship is open to female students who are enrolled as either full-time or part-time
students in an undergraduate degree program at the Ipswich Campus and who -
(a) are Australian citizens or permanent residents of Australia; and
(b) are currently residents of the Ipswich City as defined by the local government
boundaries; and
(c) have completed at least one calendar year of study at the Ipswich Campus and are enrolled
to study the subsequent year at that campus.
3. The Scholarship is awarded to an eligible applicant showing the greatest merit as
demonstrated by -
(a) past academic achievement in the chosen field of study; or
(b) personal qualities, including contribution to the Ipswich community, commitment to
social justice principles and/or bringing people from diverse backgrounds together; or
(c) leadership and communication skills; or
(d) other such evidence as may be deemed relevant to the professional success of the applicant.
4. Indigenous students are encouraged to apply.
5. The Scholarship is tenable for one year, subject to satisfactory academic progress and
continued enrolment at the Ipswich Campus.
6. The value of the Scholarship will be $5,000, payable in two semester installments.
7. The Scholarship cannot be held concurrently with any other scholarship or bursary valued at more
than $5,000 annually.
