World class online
UQ Ipswich is wired like no other university campus. More than three kilometres of optic fibre under the campus supports a high-speed operating environment. A broad-band microwave link to the St Lucia campus facilitates access to the knowledge resources of the UQ Library; and a radio local area network means staff and students are unhindered by physical connections between laptops and the main network. Students are encouraged to use this state-of-the-art technology in their learning. A wealth of computer workstations and facilities and an excellent student/computer ratio place students at the forefront of education in Australia.
World-class learning facilities
Students enjoy easy access to teaching staff and individually-tailored study programs. This environment is complemented by world-class facilities such as the purpose-built laboratories and
Building 8. Teaching spaces are designed to enhance learning; seminar and group-learning rooms, rather than large lecture theatres, emphasise personal interaction. Rooms may be booked for conferences and seminars, with availability depending on teaching requirements. Contact the Campus Manager (telephone +61 7 3381 1002 or email
annah@uq.edu.au).
Accommodation
A variety of purpose-built student accommodation, rental apartments and houses, located near the Campus, is available at affordable rates for students. Further information is available from the
University of Queensland Accommodation Office on telephone 07 3365 3419 or email
info@accommodation.uq.edu.au
Sport and recreation
UQ SPORT facilities include a multipurpose court for playing tennis, volleyball, basketball and netball. An oval is available for cricket, vigaro, football, soccer and hockey, and an 18-hole golf course adjoins the campus. Students enjoy discounted rates at a cardio-gym in the UQ Sport building; and aerobics, fitness and well-being classes are held for students and staff. UQ Ipswich students can also access sporting, cultural and recreational facilities at the St Lucia and Gatton campuses.
Security
The University of Queensland developed its
UniSafe program as a personal safety initiative designed to raise awareness and maximise personal safety on campus. The program, which is now licensed to other universities throughout Australia, runs in parallel with a 24-hour Security presence. At UQ Ipswich, UniSafe includes services such as an Escort Service and Security Call Points.
Academic and personal support
The Student Union maintains a 24-hour lounge for students and the University provides academic and personal support services in areas such as health, finance, accommodation, chaplaincy, disability, learning, careers counselling and employment. Avenues for assistance include a doctor and a full-time nurse; and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and Equity support services. The Student Centre advises on these services and on enrolments, assignment check-in, parking, examinations, postal facilities, etc.
