Clem Jones and E.W. (Ted) Jones Scholarship in Mathematics
 
 
(Established in 2008 and maintained by an annual gift from the late Dr Clem Jones, AO, and E.W. Jones, to encourage the study and teaching of mathematics.)
 
1.         The scholarship is awarded annually by Senate on the recommendation of the Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Academic) (the “PVC (Academic)”).
 
2.         To assist in the selection process, the PVC (Academic) must establish a selection committee comprising the PVC (Academic) or nominee (who shall chair the selection committee), a representative of the School of Physical Sciences and a representative of the School of Education. 
 
3.         The scholarship is open to students who -
(a)        are domestic students as defined in the Fee Rules; and
(b)        graduated from Ipswich Grammar School in the year immediately prior to the year of the award; and
(c)        are enrolled full-time in the first year of –
(i)         the Bachelor of Science majoring in Mathematics; or
(ii)        the Bachelor of Arts majoring in Mathematics; or
(iii)       the Bachelor of Education (Secondary) in the Specialist Teaching Area of Mathematics; or
(iv)           Bachelor of Education (Middle Years of Schooling) in the Specialist Teaching Area of Mathematics; or
(v)             A dual program including one of the above programs.
 
4.         The scholarship is awarded, at the discretion of the selection committee, to the applicant showing the greatest merit as demonstrated by -
(a)        academic achievement in secondary school studies; and
(b)        an interest in a career involving mathematics; and
(c)        personal qualities; and
(d)        other evidence that may be considered relevant by the selection committee to the future success in working in the field of mathematics.
 
5.         Applications must be lodged with, and by the date set by the PVC (Academic).
 
6.         The scholarship is tenable for up to 3 years, subject to satisfactory academic progress and continued full-time enrolment in the program.  Satisfactory academic progress means maintaining a GPA of at least 5 each semester.
 
7.         A recipient failing to maintain satisfactory academic progress must show cause why the scholarship should not be cancelled.
 
8.         The value of the Scholarship is $2,500 each year.
