Clem Jones and E.W. (Ted) Jones Scholarship in Business for Local Government
(Established in 2008 and maintained by an annual gift from the late Dr Clem Jones AO, to encourage young people to take an interest in, and work in, local government.)
1. The scholarship is awarded annually by Senate on the recommendation of the Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Academic) (the “PVC (Academic)”).
2. To assist in the selection process, the PVC (Academic) must establish a selection committee comprising the PVC (Academic) or nominee (who shall chair the selection committee), a representative of the School of Business and a representative of the Ipswich City Council.
3. The scholarship is open to students who -
(a) are domestic students as defined in the Fee Rules; and
(b) graduated from Ipswich Grammar School in the year immediately prior to the year of the award; and
(c) are enrolled full-time in the first year of the Bachelor of Business program at the Ipswich Campus.
4. The scholarship is awarded, at the discretion of the selection committee, to the applicant showing the greatest merit as demonstrated by -
(a) academic achievement in secondary school studies; and
(b) an interest in an area of business studies and in issues relating to local government; and
(c) personal qualities; and
(d) other evidence that may be considered relevant by the selection committee to the future success in working in local government.
5. Applications must be lodged with, and by the date set by the PVC (Academic).
6. The scholarship is tenable for up to 3 years, subject to satisfactory academic progress and continued full-time enrolment in the program. Satisfactory academic progress means maintaining a GPA of at least 5 each semester.
7. A recipient failing to maintain satisfactory academic progress must show cause why the scholarship should not be cancelled.
8. Ipswich City Council may offer the recipient work experience during the period of the scholarship. The offer of work experience is intended to benefit the recipient’s field of study and will be for periods negotiated between the recipient, the Ipswich City Council and the Bachelor of Business Program Director, UQ Ipswich.
9. The value of the Scholarship is $2,500 each year.
