Who are UQ alumni?
All University of Queensland graduates are alumni.
Maintaining good relations with alumni is mutually beneficial and the University has always encouraged graduates to keep in touch with their disciplines and colleagues through various events and activities. This makes them part of the UQ networks in business, industry, government and academe.
UQ alumni groups gather around the world to renew friendships and take part in the rich community life of the University through social, educational and intellectual activities organised by the groups and the Development Office.
Active alumni are important to the University. They can act as its advocates; for example by promoting the value of a UQ education or lobbying Government for changes to legislation affecting universities. They often support the University financially as well.
All alumni have an interest in ensuring their alma mater maintains its world-class status, attracting the best and brightest students and achieving research discoveries that benefit the community. Achievement adds to the University's reputation and in turn enhances the prestige of a UQ degree.
