Application instructions for international students
Applying to study at UQ varies depending on whether you are applying to an undergraduate, dual degree or postgraduate coursework program, a research higher degree program or to study for one or two semesters at UQ. The application process varies too if you are an international student currently studying year 12 in Australia.
Are you applying to an undergraduate or postgraduate coursework program?
If you are an international student, not currently studying year 12 in Australia, and would like to apply for an undergraduate, dual degree or postgraduate coursework program at UQ, these are the steps you need to take:
- Choose your program
- Make sure you understand all the entry requirements before you apply.
- Download the relevant application form:
- Complete your application form, print out a copy, sign it and provide us with:
- Documents to satisfy any program prerequisites as outlined in courses and programs.
- Certified copies of all transcripts of results, award certificates, grading systems, and translations (if required). See section 7 of the hard copy application form.
- If from a non-English speaking country, proof of English language proficiency. See also section 5 of the hard copy application form.
- An application fee of AUD$100. See fee slip attached to the hard copy application form.
- Submit your application
Please note the following:
- Do not send original documents.
- If you are demonstrating your English proficiency with a TOEFL Test Score and have completed it by IBT or CBT, you must send a copy of the official TOEFL Score Report to UQ.
- If you are completing a paper based TOEFL Test, you must organise for UQ to receive an original copy of the official TOEFL Score Report.
- Please ask the Educational Testing service to send the Official Score Report directly to the University of Queensland, Institution Code 0987.
- The University does not accept institutional TOEFL tests.
- If you sat an IELTS test and you can provide an IELTS Test Report Form number, you do not need to provide an official copy of your IELTS results to UQ.
- If you are waiting for transcripts or current results, you may submit your completed application with a note advising when results are likely to be available.
- You should forward a certified copy of your transcripts as soon as you receive them.
- Please check that transcripts sent separately are clearly marked with your UQ Student ID, family name, first name, date of birth, anticipated program, and a notation that an application has already been submitted.

Are you studying year 12 in Australia?
If you are an international student currently studying year 12 in Australia, you need to apply through the Queensland Tertiary Admissions Centre (QTAC) for a place at The University of Queensland (UQ).

If you want to apply for a dual degree program, you must satisfy course prerequisites, English language requirements and academic entry requirements for both programs.
Are you applying to study for one or two semesters at UQ?
If you are an international student currently studying at an accredited overseas institution and would like to apply for an Exchange or Study Abroad Program, these are the steps you need to follow:
If you want to study at UQ but do not meet the acamedic entry requirements, you may consider enrolling in the UQ Foundation Year program.
Delivered by International Education Services (IES), this program is designed to prepare you for undergraduate study at UQ.

Are you applying to a research higher degree?
You may apply to a research higher degree at any time throughout the year. To apply you need to:
- Find a potential advisor
- Submit an expresion of interest
- Apply for admission and scholarship
