Yuan Hao Lucas Goh - PhD in Science
Singapore
I have gained invaluable research experience from Introduction to Research (BIOL3012) and Honours. The outstanding learning and research supervision from my Honours supervisors with the Hall research group has provided me with the utmost support and assistance any young scientist could ask for.
My research is into Chikungunya, a mosquito-borne virus that causes fever, rashes and poly-arthritis. I am aiming to develop elements for a diagnostic kit, which will detect and identify Chikungunya virus; and potentially use neutralising antibodies for immunotherapy, in case of a possible incursion of the virus into Australia.
The challenges in research and the satisfaction of success have driven me to pursue a RHD in science. I knew that undertaking an RHD at UQ would not only drastically improve my writing, presenting, interpretational and analytical skills, but also play a part in helping me become a mature adult.
