Gerald Musa - PhD in Journalism and Communication
Nigeria

The Professor who moderated my Masters Degree thesis at the Gregorian University, Italy, recommended the University of Queensland for my doctorate. I did not hesitate to accept his recommendation because I had already read some books in the field of communication studies, written by professors from the University of Queensland.

My thesis focuses on the city of Kaduna, Nigeria. Nigeria is situated in West Africa, with approximately a population of 150 million people and it is one country in the world that has an equal population of Christians and Muslims.

The thesis looks at the nature of interreligious dialogue in Nigeria and how ethnicity, politics, and competition for resources are inextricably tied to religion. The research identifies the causes of communication breakdown between the adherents of the two religions as well as the efforts government and non-governmental agencies are making in trying to consolidate the bridge of communication between the followers of these two dominant religions.

My current RHD will help me in my future career of teaching and influencing policies which relate to communication and interreligious relations.
