Who is a postgraduate student?

At UQ, a postgraduate student (or a postgrad) is someone who has already completed an undergraduate or first degree. An Honours degree is an undergraduate degree, so Honours students are not identified as postgraduates.

2 types of postgraduate degree programs:
Coursework programs
  • Includes Graduate Certificate, Graduate Diploma, Masters and Professional Doctorate
  • Administered by UQ's faculties
Research programs
  • Research degrees at UQ are known as Research Higher Degrees, abbreviated to RHD
  • Administered by the UQ Graduate School
     
  • There are two types of postgraduate research higher degrees:
    • Master of Philosophy (MPhil); and
    • Doctor of Philosophy (PhD).
