Things to consider

Before departure, we advise you to consider a few things, such as bringing computers into Australia, getting a medical and dental check done etc. Please see below for more details.

Things to consider
Bringing computers into Australia

If you are bringing a computer into Australia, there may not be a customs charge, provided that on arrival you do the following:

  • Declare that the computer is for your personal use for the duration of your studies
  • Declare that you will take the computer back to your home country when you leave Australia
  • Show that you have a Student Visa
  • Show proof of your enrolment with UQ (e.g. a copy of your Confirmation of Enrolment - COE)
  • Provide a receipt as proof of purchase of your personal computer showing that you have had it for 12 months or more

For further information, visit the Customs website.

Electricity Australia's electricity supply is 220-240V AC, 50Hz, and the plugs are three-pin (not the same as British three-pin plugs).
Immunisations There are no vaccination requirements for travel to Australia. However, it may be a good idea to keep childhood vaccinations, such as Polio and Tetanus, up to date.
Medical / dental checks recommended before departure It may be a good idea to get a medical check done before leaving your home country to ensure that you are in good health to travel. It is also recommended to get a dental check as this is not covered on your OSHC basic health insurance. Also see: OSHC
Wanting to work during your studies? If you are thinking of working while in Australia, it's a good idea to bring translated, certified copies of employment references from your home country with you if you have worked previously. Also see: Taxation/ Working While Studying on a Student Visa
