Specialist Units
There are a number of specialist units within the Queensland Police Service, including Police Liaison Officers and the Asian Specialist Support Unit (ASSU).
- Police Liaison Officers are employed by the Queensland Police Service to particularly assist people from multicultural communities and speak a variety of languages. The Police Liaison Officers are not Police Officers and do not have the powers of a Police Officer, however they are a good first contact to help you to decide if your situation involves a legal issue, if you would like your issue to be taken further to the Police or if you would like to discuss other options for dealing with the issue.Telephone for the Police Liaison Unit: 3131 1200 or 3364 3217
- The Asian Specialist Support Unit (ASSU) specialises in cultural and linguistic aspects of the Asian community. Their main role is to prevent, detect and combat crime in Asian communities. Most of the staff are bilingual or multi-lingual and speak Vietnamese, Chinese (Cantonese & Mandarin) and Korean. Staff perform the normal policing functions. They are also a good first contact to help you to decide if your situation involves a legal issue, and if so, if you want the Police to handle it or if you would like to discuss other options for dealing with the issue.
