Enrolment

In this section:

The University’s enrolment procedure is completely electronic and all students are required to enrol using mySI-net via my.UQ. MySI-net enables you to have input into and control over your enrolment.

The Enrolment Guide provides an introduction to the online resources you will use to enrol at The University of Queensland. It also provides step by step instructions on how to complete your online enrolment and meet your financial obligations.

It is important that you read the information on myAdvisor to familiarise yourself with the enrolment processes and rules at UQ. The Enrolment Guide is accessible from this website and you are advised to read this thoroughly.

How to enrol

All new international students will be given information about the enrolment process when you attend a Getting Started Session soon after your arrival in Brisbane. It is also important that you attend an advisory session in your faculty for further assistance with completing your enrolment. See the Orientation Guide for details of Advisory sessions in your faculty.

At the Getting Started Session, you will receive the Enrolment Guide. See here for information about enrolment and access the Enrolment Guide where you will be able to access comprehensive information about how to choose courses, add and drop courses on your enrolment, financial liability, important dates and more.

Please note that most of your courses are a combination of lectures, tutorials and/or practicals. Some courses may have multiple offerings of classes for which you might have to sign-on. Others may be taught only in certain weeks. The timetable for a course will show all this information and it is important to understand how classes are named and the timetable set out.

Timetables and course selection

As some courses have multiple lecture or tutorial times you need to choose the time that best suits the timetable you have planned. If your course requires you to sign-on using mySI-net, you will have the sign-on menu item available to you when you connect. It appears under Course Information. Read more about electronic sign-on. When must I enrol by?

You are required to enrol by the due date. Penalties may apply for late enrolment. You should enrol in both semesters at once if you intend to study for a full academic year.

Every semester YOU are responsible for enrolling and paying all fees by the due date, or administrative charges may be applicable.

You may be charged a fee or your enrolment may be deleted if you:

  • Do not complete your enrolment on time
  • Do not add all of your courses on time, or
  • Pay your fees late.

The amount you will need to pay depends on how late you enrol, add courses, or pay your fees. More information

Research students have a different enrolment process. Information is available at the UQ Graduate School website.

What if I change my mind about a course or my program?

Changing Programs

If a Faculty approves a program change for an international student, the UQ Visa Officer at the International Admissions Section will report the change to DIAC and you will be issued with a new Confirmation of Enrolment for the program.

Withdrawing from a program or course

Before withdrawing, you should consider your decision with regard to academic, financial, visa and other implications. It is essential that you get advice from an Academic Adviser in your school or faculty before you make any decisions.

Note: If withdrawal from a course(s) after the census date was due to exceptional ‘special circumstances’, a student can apply for removal of financial liability.

If you are a research higher degree student withdrawing from your program, you must supply a copy of your Application to Withdraw form to the Office of Research and Postgraduate Studies (ORPS). More information is available at the Graduate School website.

For further information, refer to the University Policy on Withdrawal Without Academic Penalty
