Academic preparation programs

The University of Queensland offers Academic Preparation Program to all new undergraduate and postgraduate international students and domestic scholarship students. These programs are run prior to the commencement of each semester by the Learning Hub, Student Services and are free for all new international students and domestic scholarship students. They provide a comfortable environment for students to explore their expectations, practise academic skills, and discover the best ways to approach their studies.

Topics covered will include:

  • Writing (separate undergraduate & postgraduate sessions)
  • Studying (separate undergraduate & postgraduate sessions)
  • Library skills
  • Research matters
  • Examinations at UQ
  • Note-taking
  • Time management
  • Reading effectively
  • Avoiding plagiarism & referencing correctly
  • Science writing
  • Problem solving

These sessions are strongly recommended to any new international student who has been away from study for some time or who has not studied in Australia previously. The sessions provide a great way to ease into your new academic environment as well an opportunity to meet key support staff and other international students.
