Research Brief
The primary research focus in this area is on the development of a performance measurement framework and indicators of success for the Australian Federal Police (AFP) International Deployment Group (IDG). The research will draw upon the experiences of the AFP’s overseas operations and from the latest scholarship and thinking about international best practice. These outcome oriented performance measurement framework and indicators will be designed with contextual sensitivity and allow for the consideration of differences between mission types, conflict environments and local realities. Critically, the performance measurement framework and indicators will be embedded within the context created by the project’s other research endeavours. Once developed, its effectiveness will be field tested rigorously and appropriate modifications and refinements will be made. Ultimately, the performance framework and indicators of success aim to provide an objective means for determining the effectiveness of an overseas policing operation for the IDG. It will also enable the continual monitoring of operations allowing the AFP to direct their resources towards critical goals and track the progress towards those goals.
