Research Higher Degree
Why study a Research Higher Degree in the School of History, Philosophy, Religion and Classics?
The University of Queensland (UQ) is one of Australia's premier learning and research institutions. It is the oldest university in Queensland and has produced almost 197,000 graduates since opening in 1911. Some of the School's disciplines are the University's oldest, with its graduates becoming leaders in all areas of society and industry.
The School is actively involved in research and scholarship of international significance. Its success is showcased by it receiving more than $6 Million in external grants, publications in leading international and national journals and by major scholarly presses. The School's reputation for research excellence was reinforced this year, as UQ was ranked as one of the world's top universities in the QS World University Rankings® for Arts and Humanities. In the ranking, the University was listed in the top 50 in the world in History (ranked 36) and Philosophy (40). Further to this success, in 2011 the Australian Research Council (ARC) rated UQ 4/5 for Humanities and Creative Arts.
Staff in the School acknowledge that RHD students make a vital contribution to the research culture of the School, playing an important role in creating dynamic learning and discovery environments. The School maintains a strong research profile with a number of affiliated research centres, as well as close links with Faculty-based research activities. Students are given the opportunity to participate in an exchange program with UQ partner universities in New Zealand, and are regularly involved in the organisation of conferences, seminars and workshops.
