Whether studying history, philosophy, religion, or classics and ancient history, the HPRC Honours program offers students the opportunity to pursue advanced study in a specialist area in more depth than is possible in a pass degree. Honours study enhances students’ capacity for independent research and the acquisition of research skills to a standard sufficient for enrolment in research higher degrees. It is the first step to a specialist career in the various disciplines. The Honours program can be completed within 1 year (full-time) or 2 years (part-time).

Entry requirements:

Completion of the BA Pass degree or equivalent, with a GPA of 5 (or higher amount set by the Head of School) in a relevant major or extended major or the relevant honours entry courses. Philosophy has a further requirement for a pass in Introduction to Logic (formerly PHIL1020, now PHIL2110). For further information, please refer to the Bachelor of Arts(Honours) page of UQ Courses and Programs.

How to Apply:

To apply for the Honours program, students are required to download and complete the Postgraduate Coursework Form and Honours Study Plan. Before completing the application form, students need to make an appointment with the Discipline Honours Advisor in order to discuss their interests, proposed topic and possible Honours supervisor. Honours can be a very busy time for students, so it is important that a research plan is organised well in advance.

After a student has submited the completed application to the School Office, the School’s Director of Honours and Postgraduate Coursework and will contact the student in due course with a final decision on the application.
