APPOINTMENTS - ELIGIBILITY & METHODS OF PAYMENT

Eligibility

The UHS is available to current Students and Staff of the University of Queensland. UQ staff at the St Lucia practice are encouraged to establish a relationship with a community medical practice rather than using the Health Service for ongoing, routine medical care. Families of staff members and ex-students need to find their own community GP. Visitors to campus can obtain treatment for any urgent/emergency condition.

Methods of Payment for services

Students who are Australian citizens or permanent residents and who hold a current Medicare Card are bulk- billed. Overseas Students holding a current, active Worldcare Assist or Medibank Private card are charged the OSHC rebate only. If you do not bring your current Medicare/OSHC and student card you must pay for your visit and claim a refund later. Check at the International Education Office (3365 1794) or the health funds websites for information on how to start your Worldcare Assist or Medibank Private health cover.

The St Lucia branch of the UHS do not bulk-bill non-students. A fee for service will be charged to other users, payable on the date of service by cash, cheque, credit card or eftpos. Please check with the receptionist about the current fee when making your appointment. Failure to settle the account on the date of service will incur a further administration fee of $10.00. Staff who are seeing a doctor under the auspices of the Staff Assistance Scheme or for a work- related injury/medical condition, will be bulk-billed or have their account paid by the appropriate authority. Work- related travel consultations and immunizations should be paid at the time of consultation and then refunded by the appropriated school or faculty.

Vaccines can be paid for by cash or cheque on all campuses. St Lucia and Gatton campuses also have credit card facilities for vaccine payment.

Pharmaceutical costs are the responsibility of the patient. Many students are eligible for a Health Care Card which provides additional benefits. Students should seek advice about eligibility for a Health Care Card from Centrelink or from their website www.centrelink.gov.au
