Special Interest Group
|
Special Interest Groups (SIGs) are being established by the Faculty of Health Sciences (FHS) with the vision of our alumni creating a ‘Global Healthcare Community’ across a number of strategic international locations. |
The FHS already has a small but significant presence in many countries around the world through prospective students and postgraduates, parents and friends of current students, alumni, past staff members, research collaborators and other networks of people working in the healthcare environment as researchers, educators or healthcare professionals. SIGs are operating in Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand, Hong Kong and Canada.
What is a SIG?
SIGs sit within the framework of existing UQ alumni associations and elect their own governing committee members.
What do they do?
The SIGs, in collaboration with the FHS, will be undertaking a number of activities in line with the objectives of creating a Global Healthcare Community in 2009 - 2014. For example, we will host a series of Health Workforce Conferences, firstly in Singapore in alliance with the Ministry of Health and the Workforce Development Agency, then in Thailand with the Ministry of Public Health and later in Hong Kong.
Activities will include focusing on recruitment, establishing networks, developing a sustainable infrastructure and exploring fundraising and continuing professional education opportunities.
The long term vision will see the SIGs extend their collegial and professional reach into key global health networks including health alumni and students from other universities. They will promote international research collaboration; facilitate international health forums for the world’s top health students and other such programs with the view to identifying future world health needs and contributing the solution.
Please join us in creating a Global Healthcare Community. For more information, email Ingrid Panitsch.
