Health and physical education
teachers work in promoting physical activity and health, particularly in
schools but also in the broader community. They plan and teach socially
critical health and physical education programs, as well as school sporting
and outdoor education programs. They frequently link with other health
professionals in implementing perceptual motor programs for younger children
and incorporating specialised intervention programs (e.g. drug education,
mental health) into the school curriculum.
Health and physical education teachers work in a range of settings including:
- primary, secondary or special schools
- education authorities
- health promotion
- community recreation
