Exercise scientists design, implement and evaluate physical activity
interventions for individuals of all ages, groups (e.g., corporations,
teams and clubs) and large populations (e.g., local districts, towns
and cities). These interventions aim to achieve a range of goals, including
improving general health and fitness, preventing and/or managing disease,
rehabilitation, and performance enhancement (e.g., for sports teams).
Specialist areas include: exercise physiology, sport and exercise psychology,
biomechanics, motor control, musculoskeletal rehabilitation, cardio-respiratory
rehabilitation, physical activity promotion, and sports science.
Exercise scientists work in a range of settings including:
- health & fitness industries
- community fitness programs
- public and private hospitals
- rehabilitation centres
- institutes or academies of sport
- gait laboratories
- occupational health and safety
- government organisations
