dots Dentists work with patients of all ages in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases, injuries and abnormalities of the teeth, jaws and related supporting hard and soft tissues. They diagnose and treat conditions that affect the teeth, gingivae ("gums"), jaws, and the mucosa that lines the mouth. Dentists undertake a range of preventive and diagnostic procedures, as well as repairing, reconstructing, or replacing lost or diseased teeth, soft tissues or bone. Specialist areas include: orthodontics, periodontics, endodontics, oral and maxillofacial surgery, paediatric dentistry, prosthodontics, oral pathology and oral medicine, maxillofacial radiology, and dental public health.

Dentists work in a range of settings including:

  • community and school-based dental clinics
