The Faculty of Health Sciences has a long and distinguished tradition of health education and research. A track record of excellence is reflected by major successes in both areas, including national teaching awards and major research breakthroughs - including the world’s first cancer vaccine.
A practical experience
Our students benefit from the Faculty’s close links with the health sector, with all students in undergraduate programs undertaking practical experience at key private and public healthcare facilities. This clinical experience ensures students are well prepared to enter their chosen profession. This also provides useful exposure to future careers paths and employers.
Experienced educational leaders
Our educators are leaders in their fields. Many combine teaching with professional practice or important research. They also work to ensure continuous development of our programs to reflect the needs of the dynamic health environment. A key element of this environment is the importance of the healthcare team. The Faculty is working to imbed interprofessional learning initiatives across the curriculum to prepare graduates to work effectively as a team player. This involves students working in healthcare teams with students from other disciplines. Students from pharmacy, medicine, nursing and physiotherapy might work together on a patient case, developing the best solutions to the health issues involved.
Experience high calibre learning
The Faculty of Health Sciences attracts Queensland’s top students and high achieving students from around Australia and overseas. Studying alongside students of this calibre will challenge you academically and enable you to excel in your chosen field. We make no apology for our high standards. UQ qualifications are recognised and valued both nationally and internationally, opening a world of opportunities for graduates. Our students are not only prepared for their chosen professions, but are nurtured as leaders and life-long learners. UQ graduates are a testimony to this, with many rising to be leaders in their profession.
