Faculty Showcases Initiatives in Teamwork Education (Podcasts)

The Faculty of Health Sciences has a long and distinguished tradition of health education. Our educators are leaders in their fields. Many combine teaching with professional practice or important research. They also work to ensure continuous development of our programs to reflect the needs of the dynamic health environment. A track record of excellence is reflected by successes in national and UQ Teaching Awards  and teaching and learning research grants.

We are committed to ensuring that our programs meet the current and future needs of healthcare professionals. Our students benefit from our close links with the health sector, with all students in undergraduate programs undertaking practical experience at key private and public healthcare facilities. This clinical experience ensures students are well prepared to enter their chosen profession.

Interprofessional Education (IPE), a process whereby students of various health professional groups learn with, from, and about each other to improve collaboration and the quality of patient care, is provided to all of our students. IPE offers opportunities for students to learn key skills and attitudes required to actively engage in the safe and effective provision of current and future healthcare.

The Faculty has taken a proactive and innovative approach to patient-centred care through consumer consultation and workforce innovation. A Health Sciences Consumer Advisory Subcommittee made up of community representatives, advises on consumer aspects that relate to the development, content and structure of academic programs. Our Workforce Innovation Group acts as a hot-house for initiating innovative collaborative projects in the Faculty through scans of the external policy environment relevant to health workforce and services reform. These developments are guided by the Teaching and Learning strategies of The University and supported by the Faculty’s own Teaching and Learning Committee.
