Why study the Bachelor of Health Sciences (Honours)?

The Bachelor of Health Science (Honours) program is designed to provide graduates with the skills necessary to pursue a career in research. The program also provides:

  • Increased employability: With increasing competition in all sectors of employment, students who graduate with an honours degree have a distinct advantage. Honours graduates have demonstrated skills in written and oral communication, critical thinking and interpretation, and project management. An Honours degree demonstrates that you possess a high level of personal initiative, strong organisational skills, and that you are capable of undertaking a focussed research project and bringing it to a successful outcome.
  • A pathway to a Masters or PHD Program: Graduates of the Bachelor of Health Science (Honours) take with them the ability to implement research or quality assurance procedures in a range of topics. An Honours degree is an essential prerequisite for entry into postgraduate research Masters and PhD programs.
  • An opportunity to work with experts in the field: Students will conduct their research in collaboration with an academic supervisor. Supervisors are essential in any student’s success as they assist, guide, and advise students through their research project. Students gain an understanding of how to work as part of a multidisciplinary team. The relationships that form from working with academic staff can continue post graduation with some students gaining employment through the research networks developed during their honours degree.
  • Support and networking opportunities: Undertaking an honours degree, while extremely rewarding, is hard work. Students are supported by a series of seminars run throughout the duration of the degree. They allow students to come together and discuss their research and explore key issues or concerns. This provides students with the valuable opportunity to interact with their peers.
