Consumer Involvement
The political climate in Australia today, as in many other countries, is one of increasing awareness of the need for consumer participation in health. One aspect of this discussion involves consumer involvement in health professional education. In recognition of this important role of consumers, the Teaching and Learning (T&L) Committee of the Faculty of Health Sciences has implemented a Consumer Advisory Subcommittee.
As users of health care, we believe that consumers can provide valuable input into issues related to the strategic direction of teaching and learning within the Faculty of Health Sciences. It is through consumer involvement in this subcommittee that the Faculty hopes to generate a more holistic and integrated approach to planning in teaching and learning.
The subcommittee advises on consumer issues that may be relevant to the:
• strategic directions for future program and course development,
• proposed changes to courses, programs or entry requirements, or
• other developments deemed relevant by the Board of Studies.
