Bequests and Endowments
If you would like to make an endownment or bequest to any School, Centre or specific research area within the Faculty of Health Sciences please contact our Development Manager to assist you in achieving exactly what you want. You may also find the following general information useful:
Endowments
These are gifts which are established to run for a set period of time or in perpetuity. Endowments can be established at any time or can be a deferred benefaction through a bequest.
An endowment can be specific or unrestricted. The University invests the funds to be endowed and uses part of the interest to fund projects specified by the benefactor. The balance of the interest is added to the capital amount. Benefactors can continue to make contributions to the endowment fund at any time.
UQ does not charge any fees to manage these funds, unlike external trusts. The University is able to maximise return on investment and growth of the capital through its own substantial investment portfolio.
Bequests
Some donors may prefer to defer giving and bequest part of their estate to the University. The University welcomes bequests and has been a recipient of many that have made a significant difference to operations over the years. Bequests of real estate, money, art works, shares or bonds are just some of the ways you can assist the University.
Like other donations, bequests can be for a specific purpose or directed purpose. This is when the benefactor specifies how the assets are to be used. A bequest may also be unrestricted in which case the University determines what will be the best use for the assets.
See suggested clauses for bequests to the University or email the Development Manager for a booklet or to arrange a meeting to discuss preparing your will to include a bequest to UQ.
