 Get to know your university

If this is your first time at university, you may be finding it all a bit strange. You may be wondering:

What is a faculty? What does plagiarism mean? What does a pro vice chancellor do? What's the HECS census date?

Don't worry if university seems like an alien environment at first. You just need to give yourself time to adapt to university culture. Universities have their own culture, just like different countries have different cultures, and different workplaces have different workplace cultures.

To find out what all those big words mean, you could try looking at the terminology on the UQ orientation web site:

Tip

Each School (e.g. School of Land and Food Studies) has an academic adviser who can help you choose your subjects. The Distance Education Centre web site has an up-to-date listing of academic advisers for the Gatton campus. If you're not enrolled at UQ Gatton, ring your faculty general enquiries number to find out who can advise you.

The Distance Education Student Guide contains information about the Gatton campus including maps, accommodation, residential schools, transport and other services.
