Mastering the range of information tools available through
the Library is one step in the process towards finding
high quality information for your assignments. However,
many students still fall short of their information goals
because they don't choose the best search terms.
Search terms are the words you choose
to describe the information you're looking for. For example,
if you were looking for a place to stay in Gatton, then
you might choose the words "motel Gatton" as
your search terms. However, if you chose "accommodation
Gatton" instead, you might get a better result.

Being able to brainstorm a range of search terms and use them
efficiently will not only save you time, but you will locate
higher quality information − and more of it! It's all part
of the skill set called information literacy that
we keep talking about in this kit. It's the Library's specialty!
