UQ policy on computers and the internet

photo - students with laptop and cows!

UQ offers its courses on the assumption that students have access to a computer that:

  • supports Windows-style platforms
  • has word-processor and spreadsheet programs (like Word and Excel)
  • has access to the internet
  • has a CD-ROM drive

The aim of this policy is to encourage all students to develop strong computer skills, which are essential for education and employment these days.

We realise that distance students face greater challenges than on-campus students when it comes to computers and the internet, so this section of the kit will help you get the support you need.

The following few pages will explain:

  • UQ email. Hints on using email at UQ.
  • Computer training. Details of computer training at UQ (both face-to-face and online), and non-UQ training.
  • Blackboard. A brief introduction to Blackboard (UQ’s online delivery platform) and how to login to it.
  • Netiquette. A list of ways to interact online in an appropriate and courteous manner.
