Enhanced Studies Program (ESP)

What is the Enhanced Studies Program?

The UQ Enhanced Studies Program (ESP) provides high achieving secondary school students with an opportunity to extend their studies in an area of interest and to ‘test drive’ university life. Students accepted into the program can study one course (subject) during Semester One of Year 12.

What courses are available?
ESP students are able to choose from a wide range of courses at the St Lucia, Ipswich and Gatton campuses. A small number of courses are also available externally. Students can choose from a variety of study areas, including mathematics, history, philosophy, economics, accounting, psychology, physics, human movement studies, law, languages and political science.

The complete list of available courses can be found here (PDF) and further information including course descriptions, assessment details and class contact hours can be found by using the Guest Course & Timetable Info link on mySI-net.

Why participate?
The ESP is a great way to find out more about what university study, assessment and campus life is really like. ESP students enjoy all the benefits associated with being a UQ student, including access to first-class teaching and learning facilities such as the UQ Library, a range of student services and UQ Sport. You will also have the opportunity to get to know UQ students and staff and find out more about your future study options.

ESP students who successfully complete the program will be eligible to receive one bonus point towards their university entry rank through UQ’s Bonus Rank Scheme. In addition, the majority of ESP students who later enrol in a relevant UQ degree may receive credit for their completed course. ESP study also counts towards students’ Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE).

Students who enrol in the Enhanced Studies Program at the UQ Ipswich campus may also be eligible for the campus' Early Offer Scheme, which allows direct entry into the programs available at UQ Ipswich.

How to apply?
Applications for the 2010 Enhanced Studies Program have now closed. Students and schools will be notified of the outcome of applications in the week beginning Monday, 16 November 2009.

My ESP Experience

“Studying RELN1001 (Belief and Unbelief) through ESP enriched my year 12 experience and gave me a taste of what to expect when I started university. ESP introduced me to the university culture and I met some great people who helped me to find an area of study I was keen to pursue. I’m now studying a Bachelor of Journalism and a Bachelor of Arts at UQ with majors in History and English and am looking forward to being able to continue to share my ESP experiences with high school students through my role as a UQ Student Ambassador.”

Current UQ Bachelor of Journalism/Bachelor of Arts student
