Higher Degree by Research (PhD and MPhil) students will be advised by the Graduate School when the requirements for the award have been completed and details are to be submitted to the Provost for formal conferral.
A few days following the Graduate School's submission to the Provost, the Graduations Office (Student Progression) will commence the process of producing and dispatching graduation documents (Testamur/Transcript/AHEGS).
These documents will be prepared and posted to the mailing address as listed in mySI-net no later than 4 weeks following the conferral of the degree.
Appearance of your name on your official documents
Higher Degree by Research students are encouraged to check their official name as it will appear on documentation by going to the ‘Personal’ tab in mySI-net. Students’ names will appear as the Official name, without the title. Students requiring a name change must act immediately.
  • If you wish to add, change or delete a name (including your middle name), you must complete a Change of Personal Details request form as soon as possible. If your name change request (including appropriate documentary evidence) is not submitted prior to the deadline, you will miss the opportunity for graduation documents to be produced with the amended name. You will then incur costs associated with reprinting and postage of replacement documents.
It is suggested you email graduations@uq.edu.au to advise you are submitting a change of name to ensure your documents are not produced until your name has been corrected.
Graduation Ceremonies
Approximately six weeks prior to the next available round of graduation ceremonies, eligible PhD and MPhil graduates will be emailed an invitation to the relevant graduation ceremony. This will include the ceremony date and time as well as any other relevant information.
Graduates may proceed with organising academic dress through the academic dress hire provider.
