The Queensland - Smithsonian Fellowship Program provides Fellowships each year to enable Queenslanders to undertake research projects at the Smithsonian Institution, the world's largest museum complex and research organisation.

The Program seeks to foster an interchange of knowledge and skills between Queensland organisations and the Smithsonian and supports the Queensland Government's Q2 ambitions through the development of international alliances and networks.

Up to three Fellowships will be awarded in 2009. The duration of a Fellowship is for a period of 13 to 26 weeks with a maximum award of $30,000.

Applications are open to Queenslanders working in any area of mutual interest with the Smithsonian, including evolutionary, systemic, behavioural and environmental biology; biodiversity, conservation and climate change; earth, mineral and planetary sciences; astrophysics; anthropology, archaeology, linguistics and indigenous and cross-cultural studies; material and folk culture; science and technology; art, design and crafts; materials conservation; and museum management, practice, education and outreach.

The Program is open to Queenslanders working in government; research, educational or cultural institutions; or the private sector. (Research higher degree candidates may also apply).

Applications close at 5:00pm on Friday 14 August 2009.
