As of March 2009,
- all applicants who seek tuition fee and/or living allowance financial support from UQ are considered for the major UQ RHD scholarship schemes (APA, UQRS, IPRS, UQIRTA) when their Application for Admission and Scholarship and School Recommendation is processed by the Research Higher Degrees Unit.
- all candidates who seek financial support from UQ during candidature are considered for the major UQ RHD scholarship schemes (UQRS, UQIRTA) when their Attainment of Milestone is processed by the Research Higher Degrees Unit.
Previously, international candidates seeking tuition fee support (IPRS or UQIRTA) could be nominated for financial support through separate processes, either before admission to candidature or during their final semester(s) of candidature. So that these candidates are not disadvantaged by the change in process, the Interim Nomination for Scholarship can be used for candidates in the following situations:
- Application for Admission and School Recommendation was received by UQ International and/or the RHD Unit between 1 September 2007 and 28 February 2009, and the candidate has not previously been considered by the Graduate School for financial support; or
- previous tuition fee scholarship has been exhausted, and the candidate has not yet had the opportunity to attain a progression milestone.
In addition, as schools and institutes are still becoming familiar with how to assess performance indicators and provide appropriate evidence to support the assessment, the Interim Nomination for Scholarship can be used for candidates in the following situation:
- the school or institute has made an administrative error when preparing the performance indicators and/or supporting evidence, and did not accurately detail
- the applicant's readiness to undertake research, or
- the candidate's performance in attaining the milestone; or
- the school or institute has learned additional information about the applicant's readiness to undertake research, and the applicant has not yet commenced their research program at UQ.
The Interim Nomination for Scholarship will be phased out later in 2009, once all applicants and candidates are being processed using the new forms and the progression milestones are fully embedded.
