Research Training

The research training provided to PhD and MPhil candidates at the University of Queensland enables them to undertake a research project that leads to the completion of a timely, quality thesis. The candidate, advisory team and enrolling school or institute collaborate to identify the candidate's specific research training needs and how best to provide the necessary training and expertise. In addition to the guidance and mentoring of the advisory team, research training can include

  • enrolment in courses and workshops;
  • training in specialist research skills;
  • industry placements; and
  • laboratory rotations.

HUPP policy 4.70.6, Research Training and Thesis Format Options, sets out the policy framework for incorporating such options into an individual candidate's research training. In addition, there is provision in HUPP 4.70.6 for schools and institutes to use additional reseach training components systemically for some or all of their candidates, and these are listed below. Many of these arrangements also use thesis format options.
