You can transfer between the MPhil and PhD programs while holding a scholarship. If you transfer, the maximum duration of your scholarship is reset to that of the new program:

• 2 years full-time enrolment in the MPhil program
• 3 years full-time enrolment for the PhD program

within the Research Training Scheme funding period (2 years full-time equivalent for the MPhil program, 4 years full-time equivalent for the PhD program).

Your previous period of scholarship duration counts against this maximum duration. You must suspend your scholarship if there is any gap of time between your enrolment in the old and the new program.

In addition, if you submit your MPhil thesis for assessment and immediately commence a new PhD project, you may continue to hold your scholarship as if you had transferred from the MPhil to the PhD program. Since your scholarship normally expires on submission of a thesis for assessment, you must ensure that all necessary arrangements to commence your PhD project or to suspend your scholarship have been completed before you subngmit your MPhil thesis for assessment.
