Professor Richard Morgan, School of Mechanical & Mining Engineering

The Director of the Centre for Hypersonics, Professor Morgan has engaged with leading researchers including those at NASA and the European Space Agency for more than 30 years.

Described as a humble leader who refers to his students as research colleagues, Professor Morgan encourages development through international exchange while engendering a strong spirit of cooperation. His challenge is to provide a balance between mentoring while still encouraging independent thought, and his students are in high demand by employers both in Australia and internationally.

Professor Morgan notes that the biggest reward in his career is to see many of his students working successfully in what is a highly competitive field. He has guided an impressive 23 RHD students to graduation as Principal Advisor.
