Getting started
UQ offers new RHD students a multitude of opportunities and choices. This information will help you get started.
Navigating around campus
If you're new to UQ, you may want to access UQ Maps, which contains a map of each campus along with building names and numbers to assist you in finding your way around. UQ Maps also contains a parking guide and information on the intercampus bus service. Alternatively, you can download UQnav, a new, free iPhone application that contains searchable maps of UQ’s campuses.
Facilities
All UQ students have access to the Current Students website which contains information on accommodation, childcare, health services, IT support, UQ Sport, UQ Union and a variety of other services and facilities to help you get the most out of your time at UQ.
Once enrolled, you can also use mySI-net to maintain your enrolment online, update personal details and view useful information about your candidature.
Accommodation
UQ can assist you with finding a suitable place to live, and provide ongoing accommodation advice. The University offers a range of accommodation options including on-campus residential colleges and off-campus student housing or rental housing. There are also some helpful videos - Renting Made Easy - which discusses the common problems people encounter when renting a house, and includes information on how to find somewhere to live, how to share a property with other tenants, legal issues associated with renting and what happens when it is time to move out.
Commencement
When you arrive on campus you should arrange a meeting with your School/Institute Postgraduate Administrative Officer as soon as possible. They will guide you through an online commencement process that will allow the Graduate School to finalise your enrolment so you may commence your studies.
Once enrolled, you can use mySI-net to maintain your enrolment online, alter personal details and view other useful information about your candidature.
Induction
Graduate School induction sessions provide new research students with vital information for their candidature at The University of Queensland. Once you have been enrolled, please visit the Events & Skills Training page, click on Support and Guidance, and register for the next induction session for new RHD candidates. While you are there, you may wish to enrol in some of the many other skills and training courses that the University provides.

The Emmanuel College at UQ dedicates two-bedroom and four-bedroom apartments within the College for postgraduate students. The College has vacancies for 2012. For more information download information flyer.
All UQ campuses have a student centre dedicated to providing support and advice for a broad range of enquiries including:
- Academic records
- Fees
- Graduations
- Grievance procedures
- ID cards
- Prizes & scholarships
- Traffic & parking
All RHD candidates will need a new student card. To obtain a student card once you have enrolled, please take your UQ letter of offer and a piece of photo ID (e.g. your driver's licence or passport) to one of the following locations:
