Scholarship recipients who are commencing their candidature at UQ may be entitled to an Establishment Grant of $2500. This includes candidates who obtain a scholarship as part of the process of transferring to UQ after starting their research higher degree at another university, but excludes candidates who obtain a UQ scholarship after commencing their candidature at UQ. The Establishment Grant is the only allowance provided under the UQ Research Scholarship General Conditions.
The purpose of the Grant is to assist the recipient in meeting costs associated with commencing their research higher degree candidate at UQ, such as relocation expenses, the compulsory medical insurance cover required of international students studying in Australia, and purchasing necessary equipment (for example, a laptop). Any costs over and above the value of the Grant are to be met by the scholarship recipient through other means.
Grant recipients who relinquish the scholarship within 3 months of receiving the Grant may be required to repay the Grant to the University.
To access the Grant, candidates must complete a Personal Payment Details form and forward the completed form to the Research Scholarship Section, within three months of commencing their candidature and their scholarship at UQ. The Grant cannot be paid until after scholarship payments have commenced.
