Purpose: To provide tuition fee (and possibly living allowance) support to domestic research higher degree candidates undertaking research commercialisation and innovation training.
Value: The CTS covers the full cost of tuition fees for a Graduate Certificate in Technology and Innovation Management (GCTIM) or a Graduate Certificate in Research Commercialisation (GCResCom). In addition, the CTS may provide up to 6 months of living allowance support to a candidate during the period of enrolment in the Graduate Certificate program: the maximum value of the living allowance support is $11,250 (2010 rate).
Closing Date: None. Applicants can apply on any day of the year using the Application for Commercialisation Training Scheme. Applicants must apply separately for a place in the relevant Graduate Certificate program: the closing dates for applying for a place in the approved Graduate Certificate programs offered at UQ are available at
- Graduate Certificate in Technology and Innovation Management (GCTIM) and
- Graduate Certificate in Research Commercialisation.

Basis of Award: Performance during candidature to date; timeliness of attainment of confirmation of candidature.
Eligibility: To hold this scholarship, you must
- be a domestic candidate.
- be a confirmed candidate.
- attain a progress milestone by no later than
- for the PhD program, 15 months FTE for confirmation, 30 months FTE for mid-candidature review, 45 months FTE for thesis review
- for the MPhil program, 8 months FTE for confirmation, 16 months FTE for mid-candidature review, 21 months FTE for thesis review
- agree to enrol in an approved Graduate Certificate program either
- on a part-time basis while concurrently enrolled in a PhD or MPhil program, or
- on a full-time basis immediately following submission of your PhD or MPhil thesis for assessment.
- not previously have completed a Graduate Certificate program in research commercialisation training.
CTS Rules:
- Recipients must use the application form provided by the University.
- Recipients must use the CTS for the research commercialisation training outlined in the application and approved by the Dean, UQ Graduate School.
- Recipients must commence the CTS training within 6 months of receiving the offer of the CTS.
- Recipients must seek the approval of the Dean, UQ Graduate School, to vary the approved research commercialisation training. If approved, the duration of the CTS living allowance may be adjusted to reflect the variation.
- Recipients cease to be entitled to CTS support (tuition fees and living allowance) after
- 24 months of commencing the CTS training or
- 6 months of submitting the RHD thesis for assessment.
Scholarship Rules: CTS living allowance scholarships conform to the UQ Research Scholarships General Conditions except as follows.
- Scholarship Structure: The maximum duration of the scholarship is 6 months, and cannot be extended.
- Establishment Grant: There is no Establishment Grant.
- Part-Time Scholarships: You may hold the scholarship while part-time in your RHD program so long as you are concurrently part-time in your Graduate Certificate program.
- Scholarship Leave: You are entitled to pro rata recreation leave and sick leave (maximum 10 days and 5 days respectively). There is no entitlement to additional sick leave or parental leave.
- Change of RHD Program While Holding a Scholarship: A change of RHD program does not change the duration of the scholarship.
- Transfer and Termination of Scholarships: Submission of your thesis for assessment does not terminate your scholarship.
