2012 Highly Commended

Professor Bill Vicenzino
Bill is the Head of Physiotherapy within the School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences, with other positions including being a Director on the Board of the Australian Physiotherapy Council and Chief Investigator on an NHMRC grant that helps facilitate RHD and post-doc training.  Bill has supervised 13 PhD students to graduation, several of whom have won Dean’s commendations, with others published in top-end medical and multi-disciplinary journals. A further nine RHD students are currently under his guidance.  He believes it is an imperative that research dissemination is part of the research training process, and that the candidate’s research training involves written and conference communications.  This commendation recognises his considerable contribution to the mentoring of research higher degree students at UQ.

Dr Barbara Sullivan
Barbara is from the School of Political Science & International Studies and has supervised 12 research higher degree students to completion, nine as Principal Advisor, and has a further 10 students either under examination or under supervision.  A firm believer in equipping students with key information gathering skills right from the start of their candidature, Barbara develops flexibility, open-mindedness and creativity in her students’ approach to research.  This commendation denotes outstanding supervisory practice and recognises a considerable contribution to the mentoring of research higher degree students at UQ.
