The APA scholarship provides a living allowance for high-quality research higher degree students.  This scholarship is awarded on academic merit, research experience and/or potential; and alignment with UQ research strengths.

Value: AUD$23,728 per annum (2012 rate).  This rate is indexed annually.

To be eligible, you must:

  • be a domestic applicant or an international student who holds an IPRS commencing from 1 January 2011 
  • be nominated by your enrolling School/Institute. Candidates can only be nominated twice. The second nomination must be made within 12 months of the first nomination.  The nomination must be before the candidate commences their program or in the first round after they have commenced.  In instances where the candidate is awarded a scholarship after commencement, there will be no retrospective payments of this scholarship. 
  • have an academic qualification equivalent to a Bachelor's degree with Honours Class I.
  • not already have an academic qualification equivalent to or at a higher level than the research higher degree program you are undertaking.
  • not have previously held a research higher degree scholarship funded by the Australian Federal government (other than IPRS) for six months or more
  • not be receiving an equivalent award, scholarship (excluding IPRS) or salary providing a benefit greater than 75% of the APA stipend rate to undertake the RHD program.
