The majority of research scholarships are in the form of a living allowance, to assist candidates to undertake a research higher degree on a full-time basis. These scholarships are generally exempt from tax if the candidate maintains full-time enrolment. Further details about tax exemption can be obtained from the Australian Taxation Office (ATO). Living allowance scholarships administered centrally by the Research Scholarships office are paid on a fortnightly basis, on the regular University pay-day. Externally administered scholarships may be paid according to a different pay schedule.
