RoCan (Rotary Ovarian Cancer Research) has donated a gift of $150,000 over three years to UQCCR (University of Queensland Centre for Clinical Research) for the purpose of developing better diagnostic tests for the early detection and screening of ovarian cancer. The purpose of this partnership is to fund a 3-year appointment for a suitably qualified researcher to join the Ovarian Cancer Research Team at UQCCR, and to build upon recent advances in developing multiple biomarker blood tests for the earlier detection of ovarian cancer.

Each year, about 1300 Australian women are diagnosed with ovarian cancer. Early detection is crucial and there is currently no reliable community based screening test for early stage ovarian cancer.
