If you are drawing up a client’s Will, you may wish to consider one of the following sample clauses. Please contact the Bequest Manager for a customised clause if your client wishes to direct their gift towards a special purpose or particular research at UQ.

For a gift for the general purposes of the University: "I give (my whole estate) or (specific percentage of my estate) or (specific assets) or (the residue of my estate) or (the sum of $_______) to The University of Queensland for its general purposes. I declare that the receipt of The University of Queensland shall be sufficient discharge to my trustees."

For a gift for a specific purpose at the University: "I give (my estate) or (specific percentage of my estate) or (specific asset) or (the residue of my estate) or (the sum of $_______) to The University of Queensland for its general purposes. I express the wish but without creating any binding trust that if practicable this
gift be applied towards (state purposes as widely as possible). I declare the receipt of The University of Queensland shall be sufficient discharge to my trustees."

For a gift for a directed purpose at the University: "I give (my estate) or (specific percentage of my estate) or (specific asset) or (the residue of my estate) or (the sum of $______) to The University of Queensland for (state purposes as widely as possible). I declare that the receipt of The University of Queensland shall be sufficient discharge to my trustees."

Informing the University

The University of Queensland appreciates the chance to thank and recognise donors for their future gift, and to invite them to be involved in their area of interest during their lifetime.

Would you please consider letting your client know that they may inform the University of their bequest intention if they wish, by notifying the University’s Bequest Manager on +61 7 3346 3904 or mobile 0423 298 781 or email bequest@uq.edu.au. The Bequest Intention Form is an easy way to inform UQ of bequest intentions.  Your client’s personal information will be held in strictest confidence.

The University of Queensland Bequest Society

When your client includes a gift for the University in their Will, they are eligible for membership in the UQ Bequest Society. Society members are invited to exclusive events, concerts, tours, and other special occasions at the University. Society members are also special guests at the annual UQ Bequest Society High Tea.

Executors

Thank you for administering a gift left to The University of Queensland. As the executor, you are uniquely placed to ensure the last wishes of someone close to you are carried out.  If you have any questions about distributing a charitable bequest to The University of Queensland, please contact the UQ Bequest Manager:  07 3346 3904 or 0423 298 781 or bequest@uq.edu.au.

When the time comes, please send the following documents related to the gift:

1. A copy of the last Will, along with any codicils
2. Details of the next of kin so that we can thank them and offer our condolences
3. A copy of the estate accounts, on completion of the administration.

When you are in a position to distribute a gift from the estate, please make a cheque payable to The University of Queensland and post it to:

Trustees

Trustees of Prescribed Ancillary Funds (PAFs), Charitable Trusts and Foundations may like to consider writing The University of Queensland into the Deed of Trust or Model Deed when setting up the PAF, Trust, or Foundation.

The University of Queensland is a Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR). All donations over $2 to The University of Queensland are tax deductible.
