Learning: The UQ Scholarship Endowment Fund

The University of Queensland is committed to enabling the best and brightest students to pursue a course in tertiary study, regardless of their financial circumstances. The Scholarship Endowment Fund enables the University to help students in need with the burdens of fee payment, buying books and coping with living expenses. Gifts to this fund make it possible for students to focus on studies and excel in their chosen course.

We are graduating leaders in medicine, law, research and cultural studies. Your support of scholarships at UQ makes it possible for more students to achieve their dreams.

By making a gift to the Scholarship Endowment Fund, you remove the financial or geographical barriers that prevent talented, but disadvantaged students from fulfilling their potential.

Discovery: Local research solving global challenges

UQ researchers are breaking new ground across a range of disciplines.

Medical researchers are offering new hope as they tackle disease; whilst researchers across the disciplines of science, engineering and information technology are informing the direction of new technologies that will forge the future of our world. Meanwhile, Humanities researchers are developing a deeper understanding of the importance of past and present relations between culture, society and the economy.

Your gift will support UQ researchers to undertake collaborative, entrepreneurial and potentially transformational research, as they strive to provide solutions to the most challenging issues facing our society today.

Engagement: What inspires you at UQ?

We recently received the following inspiring feedback from alum Therese Seeney:

“Supporting UQ philanthropically has been my way of thanking the University for its effect on my future and its continuing effect on the lives of those pursuing goals achievable though higher education. Research is one of those important, thankless, painstaking and lengthy areas of study which is on the whole undervalued and underfunded. I like to think that my donating to research is in some small way providing opportunity to keep a research project going and enabling it to reach a useful outcome or breakthrough. "

(Therese Seeney, UQ Graduate and supporter of research)

By making a gift to the UQ Annual Appeal (formerly known as the Chancellor’s Fund Appeal), you play an important part in the success of the program, endeavour or journey to discovery that most inspires you. However large or small, your gift is important, and your participation makes a difference.

Education: the gift that keeps on giving

Last year more than 2,000 people from our growing community of alumni and supporters made a gift to the University’s annual appeal. The UQ Annual Fund Appeal raises vital funds for programs, including scholarships and research.

Now, we are appealing for your support to help the emerging needs of the school or faculty you were a part of – the place you called home as a student.

With these gifts we are helping disadvantaged students reach their potential, funding scholarships, allowing students to gain on the job training and building endowments to support research and higher degree projects.

It takes hundreds, if not thousands of people helping, teaching and supporting each student through their educational career. Education is a gift. It’s a pathway to a future unknown, a future hopeful of greatness.

By making a gift you are helping UQ expand the possibilities of the next generation.

  • Workplace Giving at UQ

    Workplace Giving at UQ

    What is Workplace Giving?

Workplace Giving is a simple and effective way for employees and employers to support the wider community and have a lasting impact on improving the lives of those less fortunate. UQ’s Workplace Giving Program also offers staff the opportunity to support their own charitable institution, The University of Queensland.

For the fourth year running Professor Ian Frazer (Patron of UQ’s Staff Giving Committee and Chief Executive of the Translational Research Institute), is generously offering to match all staff gifts to the University (up to $5,000 per staff member). This means that the area you choose to support will benefit twice as much, further extending your philanthropic reach.

How can you benefit by giving through UQ's Workplace Giving Program?

Payroll giving enables you to donate money directly through your pay on a regular basis and receive an immediate tax benefit as you give.

By spreading your donations through fortnightly pay deductions over the year, you can ease the financial burden of making a larger one-off donation. There is no requirement for you to collect and track receipts for tax time, as a summary of your payroll deduction donations will be included on your PAYG Summary issued in July each year, for inclusion in your tax return.

Nalani Cooper, Nursing and Midwifery student

“This scholarship enabled three members of my family to attend UQ at the same time in the early 70's. The financial help given to me and my family meant that we could concentrate on our studies. Back then, University was really restricted to city students and students from wealthy country families. The Wynne Scholarship changed this for many middle and working class Maryborough students.”
Dr Michael Monsour, Medicine graduate of 1978
